Tinting on black and white line art
and text:
Tinting is a process of applying a darkening
agent to the engraved area to add contrast
to the engraving when it is needed. Some
woods don't darken a lot when engraved such
as Birch. We will tint wood engravings on
stock items that require more definition, as
shown below. The process used on our Birch
boxes is a permanent binding agent that
produces an even black fill that really adds
to the engraving. We do this free of charge
for all of the Birch game boxes.
Tinting photo engravings: We
do not tint our hardwood plaques unless client specifies
us to do so. Some folks
prefer the lighter colors that some wood
engraving create. Below is a great example
of tinting (on right) and the un-tinted (on
left). Tinting can also work very well on
Alder when the engraving includes text and
basic designs. Tinting also does well on on
darker woods such as Walnut.
The process used
for for tinting photograph and text on wood
plaques is a non-binding agent that can add
a lot of definition to an engraving. Tinting
wood engravings is very much a personal
preference. This free option is available on
the order forms for wood plaques and other
selected items.
